P : Well listeners,
here now in our studio we have invited Mr. Tarekh Zeidan from Egypt one
of the winner of the wonderful Indonesia quiz organized by RRI World
Service Voice of Indonesia in cooperation with Tourism and Creative
Economic Ministry. Hello Mr. Tarekh Zeidan. How are you?
T : I am fine, thank you. Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh
P : Waalaikumsalam, and Mr. Tarekh as one of the winners of this quiz. How do you feel?
T
: Actually I am thrilled sort of speak because I never thought that I
would win because you know that stuffy don't expect something and then
it happen, but I was really thrilled when I saw that my name is among
the winners because actually the first five winners my name was not
included but one of the winners apologized so I replace him so I am the
lucky loser, you may say.
P : Okay, when did you get the information that you are the winner?
T : A week from today.
P
: So, you are here in Indonesia, in Jakarta and attend the celebration
of the 67th anniversary of the radio Republic of Indonesia. Now, talking
about radio Mr. Tarekh, how did you participate in this quiz? I mean
through our short wave program or to internet?
T : Yes, meanly I
am short wave listener since 1984. I have been begging up different
radio station. I have been move trying a lot of radio station since
then. Radio Indonesia is the first time I have picked up the Voice of
Indonesia. It was about 1992 the English section and then later on now
with the internet it helped me to you know get a little bit more info
about Voice Of Indonesia the languages that you transmit with and I
don't know that you have not orbit section but now I am little bit
listen to orbit section every day from 6 to 7 my local time in Cairo and
the English section but now there are some difficulties of speaking of
the English section. Actually because a lot of interviews from another
radio station on the same frequency of 9526. So, how you know this one
and I knew about the quiz through some of my friends that we have sort
of a club on the Facebook that we exchange the latest changes about
different radio station. I picked up the Voice Of Indonesia in that
frequency for instance in Idul Fitri. Voice of Indonesia was not
transmitting, so, after Idul Fitri I picked it up and I made a note to
my friends worldwide Voice Of Indonesia is now back on 9526 so we can
listen to their programs and they were very happy actually because we
are a little bit worried about the short wave, you know a lot of
stations are now moved to the internet and so on, but I just wanna lead
you know that there is a lot of people are still interested in listening
to you guys on the short wave banned, so please keep that on mind.
P : Okay, good. Thank you.
T : Thank you.
P
: Okay, Mr. Tarekh Zeidan before we are talking about radio. So what's
role do you think the radio play as the public service today? I mean the
existence of other electronic media like a social media, internet
media. Do you think that the short wave radio will be still dying in the
future?
T : From my point of view. I think the short wave will
remain. I know that a lot of people now are relying on the internet or
satellite or all these. But I was talking to one of the winners of the
quiz and he lives in Europe and he said when we get let say an
electricity out stage if we think dies but the short wave because south
wave is gift from God to everybody can used it and it's there I mean
even in Egypt, I have radio with me with the batteries. I don't have to
use the electricity or I think and I begging up to the different
stations and the furthermore I know that when all the facilities die
like the internet, satellite and everything, south wave is there unequal
remain there are. So, this is very important a lot of listeners are
still listening to south wave banned and they will keep on listening to
short wave banned even some of my friends are living particular close to
Indonesia, like Srilanka, or India. They are really made about begging
up to local radio stations from Indonesia. Though they do not understand
Bahasa Indonesia, but they enjoy listening to the music. You know even
there is an news in English about some local activities taking place in
this island or something. It helps to gain information, how would I get
information about Indonesia if I am not listening to radio Indonesia for
instance. I mean is a main source of information for us worldwide to
know more about the culture, to know more about the people, to know more
about Indonesia.
P : Okay, talking about radio Republic Indonesia
RRI World Service Voice of Indonesia and we have some segments like
information, entertainment, culture, education. So which segments do
you?
T : Actually I prefer the musical section especially the
traditional Indonesian music. It gives you like you know sort of that
feeling that you are sort of listening to some conceptions all some
music as well because I am all guys. So, I enjoy listening to
traditional music more than the new trend music. I know that you played a
lot of sort of hip hop Indonesian music as well. It is okay but I
prefer listening to the traditional Indonesian music. It makes me you
have the nostalgia of the good all days as I said.
P : Okay, so do you have any suggestions for our program?
T
: Well, if I may suggest anything, I was say about the program about
the ex of short wave would be great. I mean a lot of listeners now are
would love to participate on that on positive that also are listening to
me right now would be more than happy to participate in editing such
program.
P : Okay, Mr. Tarekh Zeidan, thank you very much be here in our studio for the interview.
T : Thank you very much. The bless all mind and happy 67th anniversary for Voice of Indonesia.
P : Have a nice day here, have a nice visit in Jakarta, Indonesia.
T : Thank you very much.
P
: Well, listeners, that was our interview with Mr. Tarekh Zeidan one of
the winner of the quiz, Wonderful Indonesia and thank you. See you. Bye
bye.

P : Well
listeners, here today in our studio we invite Mr. Mauno Ritola from
Finland one of the winner of the wonderful Indonesia quiz organized by
RRI World Service and the Indonesian Tourism and Creative Economic
Ministry. Hello Mr. Ritola.
M : Hello.
P : How are you?
M : Fine, thank you.
P
: You are one of the winners of the Wonderful Indonesia quiz organized
by the RRI World Service in cooperation with the Indonesian Tourism and
Creative Economic Ministry. So, how do you feel as one of the winner of
this quiz?
M : I am really lucky to one of this trip and it would
be... We have been only one day at here, but it will very nice trip
present. I think it would be fantastic.
P : Okay, so when did you get the information that you are one of the winners of the quiz?
M
: It was just a week ago or one of the half week ago because there was
some winners from French and China who couldn't come. So, I am can of
substitute in this case.
P : Okay, so how's the flight from Finland?
M : Oh, it was long but it was quite okay. 15 and a half from Germany together it was about almost 20 hours.
P
: Okay, yes Mr. Mauno as you know that this quiz is organized based on
the celebration of Indonesian Radio Republic Indonesia 67th anniversary.
So, talking about radio, so what do you think or how do you evaluate
the existence of radio at this time admit the growing the fast growing
of other kind of media like social media, televisions, and internet
media at present?
M : Well, radio is importance is a bit less than
in earlier time especially among young people but all the people still
listen to radio a lot time also young people listen to musical program
and so on, and adult also used broadcast to listen to radio program
scent. Of course radio program are listened via internet a lot these
days. But, I think, radio will survive anyways. That's all always been
said when TV came they said there will be known ready about radio will
survive, I think.
P : And as you know that our broadcast RRI Voice
of Indonesia is broadcast to south wave and also internet and when you
were joining the quiz, where did you get the information from the south
wave or the internet ones?
M : Internet. I heard about it in the internet.
P : And do you still have a south wave radio at home?
M
: Yes, I am still south wave listener. It has been my hobby and I also
do south wave listening as a part time work in monitoring radio station
and I still listen quite a bit to south wave station not so much for
programs but I still like to find new station on left.
P : Are there still many people in Finland who are listening to do south wave or program south wave broadcast?
M : Not very many. It has lost popularity quite a bit. I think they are mostly old people lower 50 who listen to the south wave.
P : And some people say that if you want to get the faster information so tuned on your radio. So what do you think about this?
M
: I still believe in, at least in our country our national radio is
faster in bringing news than newspaper for example. Many people most
people listen to radio to catch the latest news of course the media who
that transmits or give the program. It maybe also in internet but still
household in Finland they have radios.
P : And they are listening to an FM radio?
M : Mostly FM, yes.
P
: Mostly FM radio. Now and some people also said that south wave radio
will fade away in the next future and then they said that ok. It is
better now you have an FM radio but in fact you are still one of
M : Yes, I am like example of south wave listener.
P : Ok. So, what makes you interested to be one of the south wave
listeners?
M
: There are still radios station that done have their program in the
internet or the internet connector this advance reliable and so on. And
so many stations can still be found controlled by them not only at all
in the internet. There are many rural areas since then. There are south
wave stations in Brazil for example. There are quite a bit of south
stations.
P : And how long have you been a listener to the Voice of Indonesia the RRI World Service?
M : I think I heard the Voice of Indonesia the first time in 1973, I think.
P : 1973?
M : Yes, I start to south wave listening when I was ten years old.
P
: So, talking about our program I mean the RRI World Service, Voice of
Indonesia programs. Do you have say just kind of suggestions to our
program that we need to make improved on this segment or the other one
segment?
M : I like the format these days. There are quite bit
music and I am interested in news and current affairs. I am not sure to
improve them but of course contact to the listeners and listeners'
letters they are nice too.
P : What about our segment in culture?
M
: I like that those too. Yes, they are nice too. I especially listen to
news because I am interested in news. I did my thesis in University
about the association of South East station nations. So, I special I
studied in this area, this area economic and so on. So, I am interested.
I also in Europe we have this economic integration. So, it was good to
learn about your areas economic first.

Mauno Ritola to be our source person in this interview and once again I
